Chicago’s 3,000 New Security Cameras

ChicagoCamerasIn July, CHA moved forward with a $23 million plan to install over 3,000 new security cameras in public housing developments across the city. The authority says the plan will “ensure the safety and well-being of its residents.”

Three-thousand one hundred and ninety eight cameras. That sounds like a lot, right?
Mayor Daley made a comment when he was visiting New Orleans to the city’s mayor, Ray Nagin.
“Look, I like these crime cameras you guys are doing in New Orleans. They’re cheaper than hiring more police officers and we’re going to do them in a big way in Chicago,” Daley said, according to Nagin during an appearance on the local FOX affiliate.
